Matheysin Museum
01.04.2024
In the heart of the historic center of the town of La Mure, the former Dauphin’s castle has housed the Matheysin Museum(« Musée de France ») and its garden since 1994. Archaeological collections and the episode of the Siege of La Mure in 1580 are alongside rooms dedicated to miners, peasants, glove makers, and peddlers. These professions have brought renown to this mid-mountain region that inspired many artists. The last spaces are devoted to regional sculptors and painters from the 19th and 20th centuries. Among them, the abstract painter Claude Garanjoud (1926-2005) precedes the composer Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992), who spent half a century as a summer resident in Matheysin. Each season, the museum presents a new exhibition.
The Matheysin Museum will be open for free on Saturday, September 21, and Sunday, September 22, from 2 PM to 6 PM.
